Awkward and Awesome

I desperately need something to do to keep my mind busy. I am basically bed ridden for the day so blogging seemed a perfect fit. One of the fabulous fashion blogs I follow posts awkward and awesome thursday posts and I thought it only fitting to do one of my own this week.

Awkward

  • picking up your kindergardener from school to find she has her pants resting right below her but gansta style. When questioned she responds "they got wet" this is code for I was in a rush and didn't pull them down enough to avoid destruction. When you present a follow up question of "how long have you been wearing them this way" they respond, "just a minute". "Oh so you went potty just before you left school?" "no mom I went after the field trip" Awkward- that field trip ended an hour ago, and you child has been sporting gansta potty pants for the last half of school, thank goodness for long tunic shirts and a thoughtful mother who put it on her today!
  • Watching a grown woman in which you are carrying on a conversation with completely biff it on the curb landing face down in the road and all you can do is stand there dumb founded and ask "you okay" without even helping her up.
  • Getting en EGD and a colonoscopy at age 28 and realized the people sympathizing with you are 50+, oh yeah that's because not many people my age get this pleasure!
  • Having to down 2 liters of crystal light laced with a bottle of Miralax. Then when you are one cup away from completing a gigantic feat you watch it all come shooting back out. And worst of all knowing you are only half way done with the meds they are pushing you to get in.
Awesome
  • having a kid big enough to serve dinner and clean up while you spend your night in bed and not hearing a complaint
  • Watching your kids hold hands minutes before they attempt something new just so that they know they got each other's backs.
  • getting an email that says you DON'T have to teach on sunday when you know getting to church was going to be a big goal alone!
  • Husbands who gently stroke your back and build you up with his words so you know you can do hard things
  • Flowers from your dad just because he wants you to know he is there for you
  • watching both your kids complete the monkey bars after years of practicing.
These are 100% from the last 5 days and 80% from the last 24 hours. I am off to my scopes in two hours and I may or may not feel like dying when I am done. All I have to say is the end better be easier then the beginning or I will be out of commission for the weekend, and I have way too much to do.

This is my outfit today, I am not modeling it for you seeing that I can't wear makeup, hair pins, or contacts for my appointment. But just imagine it in lilac and with a nice gray tank on my tan body and you will get the picture. I love it though I feel like the frumpy mom wearing it, oh well they said dress in loose clothes right!

Our Easter Morning

Easter bunny thought to bring new pj's!

 And eggs
 and more eggs
And we were lazy this year so in the morning we colored eggs!

And photos of our nicely dressed easter family are to come because they are on someone else's camera!

Good day for eggs

We went out to Shawnee Mission this weekend for a easter egg hunt, visit with the easter bunny, tour of a fire truck, and playing on the playground. It was so much fun but the best part was watching the girls accomplish a big goal, they BOTH made it across the monkey bars all by themselves. Layla has been working on this for a while and makes it about half way before loosing her momentum. Saturday was the big day she made it cross on her second try. Then it was all the way every time. Isa of course could not just let her sister do all the fun stuff so she was determined to learn. After about a half hour of working at it and on her final attempt..... she did it all by herself! She amazes me all the time the things she can do at four! They both had a blast hunting eggs for the 3.5 seconds before they were all claimed. And watching them wait for the start was the best, holding hands.... best mommy moment ever!
The girls making the mad dash for eggs!

They didn't get much but the real easter bunny more then made up for that with 50+ eggs this morning!

Shannon didn't so much enjoy the bunny the second time around!

Perfect day followed by a movie with Papa, Five Guys for dinner, and free ice cream at Yogartini!

Blog Challenge 2

Who have you been closest to the longest!
Christmas
This post makes me smile for so many reason. I am supposed to post a photo of the person I have been closest to the longest. Hands down that is Mary Alexis! We met when we were four years old in what we remember to be a sandbox (aka the long jump pit at the local high school). And from that moment on we were attached at the hip. I watch my girls when they play and they hardly have to finish a sentence before the other knows what they are thinking. They spend every minute together and when they are apart they are planning what they will do next. I never had a sister like that but I did have Mary. She was my other half. Come summer time we spent at least 5 out of 7 nights at each other's house. I can't think of more than a handful of childhood memories that do not have her in it.

This past month we headed to Utah and had to make a stop to see her. When we left and drove back up to Kaysville the girls got into the car and asked if next time we go on vacation if we can just come see Mary. They just love her and their words were, "mom she's just like you." That almost made me cry. I love Mary so stinking much and to see my little kids instantly love her too meant a lot. So here it is a picture or two of us in our older not so embarrassing years (mostly because the others are packed away in my storage closet)!

My Wedding reception

Mary's Wedding Luncheon
(don't mind my post baby fatness!)

Side note: when we were kids people used to ask us if we were sisters. Always cracked us up because we couldn't look more different but it was probably because we could in fact finish each other's thoughts, sentences, and basically lived together for 8 years!

15 Facts about ME

Blogging Challenge day 1

1- I have extremely slow reactions when I am scared. I usually jump *pause 3 seconds* then yell. I can't stand the delayed reaction but my family thinks it is hilarious.

2- I love shoes. I would spend all my extra cash (ha ha like I ever have any) on shoes if I could. Thank goodness for a mother who feeds my habit on HER budget!

3- I am a bit gullible. My husband told me when I first met him that he had kissed like three girls before me. (not such a huge number unless you are just entering high school then it seems huge) I did not find out I was his first kiss until we had been married for 3 years.... 9 years later. (and no it isn't because he is a good liar)

4- I hate pickles and mustard. So much so we have never kept it in or fridge for the seven years we have been married.

5- I slept with my childhood blanket for almost two decades. I know silly but really it wasn't about cuddling with it it was because it was made of a silk type fabric and would get really cold at night. Then I would use it to line my pillow so I could keep myself cool at night. Which leads me to...

6- I HATE being hot at night. I will freeze my family by keeping the air on 65 during the summer and windows open in the winter just to avoid sweating at night. I feel like I have hot flashes at night that make me super claustrophobic when I sleep.

7- I love to sing. I wish I had the guts to do it in public more but thankfully my ward really doesn't know/care that I sing because they NEVER ask me. But I love love love it and dream of one day being old and live in Utah just so I can be in the MoTab.

8- I like the thought of reading but the actual execution in a bit of a downer. I rarely find a book worth the time it takes to read. I am a SLOW reader and if I am not totally engaged in a book by the first chapter that is it for me. Thus I have not read a ton in my mothering days after college. And I am open to any suggestions that
a) do not contain more than two words per page that are uncommon (see #9 for reasoning)
b) have engaging characters that I will love and hate... gotta have a bit of drama
c) will not take me a year to finish because it is bigger than the Webster dictionary
d) does not have a movie out about it because I am more often than not going to just watch it and call myself good.

9- I CAN NOT SPELL. Spell check is my best friend. I am smart don't get me wrong I have a solid B+ student at BYU and did straight A's at her sister school BYU-I. But I had to spell check everything I did. And when I am reading and come across a word I don't know I sound worse than Layla sounding it out in my head. I don't judge the girls lack of confidence in their reading skills because THAT IS ME. I can't spell so reading can be difficult or rather time consuming and that just means more stress I don't need. So in case you ever read this blog and think "seriously this girl went to college" know 1 I hardly take the time to reread my posts and 2 I can not spell if my life depended on it.

10- I am a list maker. I make a list for everything. And I am one of those nuts that likes to make a to do list at noon and add all the things I have already accomplished just so i can mark it off and it makes me look SO MUCH more productive!

11- I love swimming. I used to have a pool in my backyard when I was a kid and I basically lived in it all summer long. And when I got to high school I joined the swim team. I am not going to say I was the best by any means but I pulled my own weight (he he) for our team.

12- I don't like chocolate that much. I like fruity candy much more than I will ever like chocolate. Thankfully this makes cutting it out of my diet due to the adverse effects it has on my tummy much easier.

13- I am a t-shirt and jeans girl. I love to get dressed up and most of the time i am but at heart I wish i was back at my size 2 thin self so I could throw on my jeans, a t-shirt, a dang cute pair of earrings and a pair of heels and call myself ready. One day I might just reach the single digits and then I will give it a try!

14- I have a knack of pissing off my children. Especially when I try to do something nice. Today is a good example. Isa wanted her hair cut and I quote "just like Layla's" so i gave her Layla's cut only and inch and a half longer in the back and 2 or 3 inches longer in front. Now she won't look at me because I cut it too short. Apparently our eyes see shoulder length as MUCH different.

15- I love my family. They drive me nuts and make me want to escape on  a vacation weekly (or maybe daily) but they are my life and I love them so.

And because it is in the rules here is a recent photo of me Pre- haircut!

Aren't I too young?

Well thanks to the lovely staff at KU Med I will be going in next thursday to have an esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy. I know longest word ever followed by the scariest one (well aside from the other "c" word that is.) After getting my pre-op instructions I sat back and thought "aren't I too young to be purchasing this basket of colon cleansing supplies?" Yet I have not been so excited/scared to see a doctor. Excited because I could possibly go longer than two days without believing I might have food poisoning. Scared because no one really wants to find something wrong when they go in for these scopes. Especially because IF they find something I can look forward to do this every couple years.

However I might just loose a dress size thanks to the liquid diet for three days and nearly liquid diet leading up to next week thanks to my pain and nausea. So next week when you all are enjoying your spring weather you can think, at least you aren't spending your week feeling like a 50 + senior sporting a cozy track suit. Hooray for the big day. And I'll keep you posted.

P.S. This is not a recent photo but rather one of the last time I had this much fun at a hospital.... I really thought getting a gall bladder out fixed the problem but no no, I get to go back for more fun! Hopefully I will look this happy next week!!

Blogging Rut

Okay So I am out of fun and spunky stories to write about and inspiration is low these days. But I miss writing and posting so I am going to attempt the 60 day challenge and when I poop out it is because my love for coming up with my own stuff has resurfaced and I am back to the normal blogging routine. Tomorrow will be day one and it should at least mean for a while you will have something to look forward to in my little corner of cyberspace!

our occasional addition

We have a favorite little girly around here lately. Layla LOVES to take care of babies. And though Miss Jheda is not a small as she used to be she is just as fun. We have had a few adventures lately and she is just one of the family. We love her so much!

Marilee update

Rarely do I update about myself on our family blog. Unless it has to do with the kids or my hubby I keep it on my other blog. I am currently going a bit stir crazy and am in a lot of pain so I need a distraction so I am blogging. Good use of my time I know. Anyways here is the deal. This photo is a great indication of how I feel. However *thanks* to the slow staff at KU Med I am sitting at home instead of hanging out with the doc like this lady.  As most of my friends back in Rexburg know and my lovely hometown friends can remember I have some  health issues. When I was in college I drove home for Thanksgiving and was *lucky* enough to find myself in the hospital when i should have been driving home. MY WONDERFUL friends took my car back to Provo for me and once i got back I started to see the local doctor. He said I had IBS and then gave me meds for it.
I actually did quite well for a while and besides the occasional day of curling up in a ball and sobbing in pain sure I was going to die, I coped. When I got pregnant with Isa i stopped my medication because it was too dangerous to be on anything I didn't have to be on. So Imodium became my friend. After I had Isa and about 1 1/2 years of doctors visits they took out my Gall bladder.  I thought I was home free and doing great but you know that would just be too easy. I have been feeling kind of crappy for a while but in October we began trying to have a baby and you know that isn't as easy as people make it sound. Nor do they tell you how stress full it is. I get really ill and have been in a ton of pain and thought it was A) a reaction to getting used to life off of an IUD   B) Life with periods and ovulating again  C) a miscarriage or a tubal pregnancy .... thank goodness it wasn't that! D) That stupid IBS again.

Currently we have a fabulous doctor who does not like to treat you until he knows what you need to be treated for. He doesn't just give me some pills and say these should help. He likes to run tests and more tests and more tests until he knows what is going on. So that is where I am at. I went in and did about 10 blood draws for everything under the sun that could cause my abdominal pain and bloating. But they all came out clear. Next step was the ct scan. That was helpful but not the perfect clear photo I hoped to take. They are sending me now to get my entire intestinal track scoped. That mean a day in the house, *cleaning house* followed by a day in the hospital with tubes running through me with fancy little cameras. They will be looking for signs of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. That leaves me to my current pain. They found on the scans that I have sacrolilitis and that is kind of odd because I am so YOUNG.... that makes me laugh because lately I feel old! Anyways... basically it is tons of low back pain. As long as I DO NOT lay on my stomach and rarely visit my sides I am USUALLY fine. That meaning Ibuprofen in my friend. But when you have scopes going in your body looking for inflammation is isn't the best idea to be faithfully taking an anti inflammatory. So I am taking Tylenol and covering my back in biofreeze. (And thank you sweet maintenance man for coming today to fix my ice machine because i am using ice on my back like crazy! and p.s. my house usually is not this messy!)

I am currently just sitting around WAITING for my scope appointment to get scheduled and trying to not freak myself out to much. Being the wife of a med student means that you and your sweet eager to learn husband have way too many resources to look stuff us causing you to worry over things you shouldn't even know. But we are surviving and I am crabby. But the girls are doing relatively well at getting along and helping around the house and my sweet niece who had been over all weekend has kept me smiling and remembering why I want a baby. Of course that whole idea is on the back burner for a bit which is hard but like I realized this weekend with conference I can do hard things and will grow and be so much happier for it.

(seriously it is a good thing conference was this weekend or I might have been in tears from stress and pain. I got my reservoir filled to last me a while and get me through some trials so thankfully for now i am good!)

As for the rest of life things are pretty calm and I am happy to be home and back on schedule! I miss my Utah moments like crazy but it is keeping me moving and working hard so I can reward myself with a solo trip next time, hopefully sooner than later! And thus I end my super long post!
