Dance Performance Videos 2012

Layla's Dance Class Isa's Dance Class

The great fall of 2012

So last Sunday we actually got out of the house and off to church without much trouble. usually the girls drag their feet all morning and Damon likes to be held the whole time we try to get everyone fed and ready.

Crazy me I thought that meant the beginnings of an easy day. instead as we got out of the car and walked into church only two minutes past the hour I had a terrible meeting with a pot hole in the cement. my ankle rolled, I attempted to straighten and correct, but alas it didn't work and it was a slow motion fall to the ground.

Since my sweet Damon now weights about 15 pounds we thought it would be easier to carry just him in then him PLUS the carseat. I seriously regretted this decision as I was now falling face first to the ground with him in my arms. I was able to think quick and react as best I could to protect my sweet man. I got my left knee down first with quiet the hit hoping to stop there. (at this point I am sending out a huge thank you in my mind for my last minute change into a long thick skirt.) Unfortunately we didn't stop there we continued to fall completely down. I held Damon tight to my body bracing his head in my hand and used my other hand to take the impact as I slide the rest of the way to the ground.

I quickly rolled over FREAKING OUT to assess the damage. Damon had a scratch on his nose, lip, knees, ankles, and his thumb. all I noticed on myself wad a torn up hand from sliding it on the cement, nice road burn! we headed inside to clean up and check Damon for additional injuries. once we realized his thumb was smashed hard between me and the ground we decided to take him to the E.R. of course I say we but really I was set that we were going and Brian knew not to argue with the guilt stricken mother trying to keep from crying.

Of course Brian was supposed to teach that Sunday so we had to let the primary leaders know we wouldn't be there. I wrote a quick note with a Crayon and took it in for our friend in the presidency. As I folded up the note I realized my hand left bloody smears on the paper was I wrote, it was great added drama for the letter!

Of course I left my wallet with our insurance cards at home along with my emergency first aid kit. So we headed to children's mercy south since Damon was already in the system from his surgery.

we checked in I got bandaged up and headed in to check out our guy. he thankfully didn't hit his head so he was doing well. However that poor thumb was getting worse as time went on. we took him in for x-rays to check for a fracture. Thankfully it was okay so we put on a splint, cleaned and bandaged his cuts, fed him to check that he would eat without trouble or pain. As we headed home around twelve I realized slowly how banged up I got. I brused both knees tearing up one pretty good, had bruises up and down my legs and ankles, my lovely torn up hand and palm, the back of my other hand, and a very sore body that was slowly getting more painful as the adrenalin wore off.

so now I have a new resolve to carry Damon in his carseat more often, wear flats mostly, and continue working on my physical fitness so maybe just maybe I can learn to turn as I fall or better yet not fall at all.

A little test run

This past week my wonderful husband has been gone for a rotation in rural Kansas. He is four hours away so it isn't horrible. And he was able to come home for the weekend and leaves again tomorrow for another week. Since third and fourth year he will be doing many away rotations for three to six weeks straight we thought this was a good little test run for our family. It was a bit scary when I thought of myself taking care of all three kids on my own with them home 24 hours a day. After our week I am happy to say that we did great. The girls missed daddy terribly, Damon doesn't seem to notice too much as long as I keep him fed and close by my side, and I felt like I was missing my other half come night time where there is no one to snuggle with.

I am used to waking up by myself. Many nights Brian never comes to bed until four in the morning so that isn't a huge difference. And I get up in the morning and he is almost already gone to school. However sometime in the night some where we meet up to snuggle on the couch. I inevitably fall asleep with in a half hour max and he will wake me to help me back into our bed. Well when I woke up on the couch at 2 in the morning there was no one to shuttle me back. I was of course scared of the dark (I am and always will be scared) so I turned on all the lights, did the through check of the house and all the kids rooms and all the showers, then headed to bed to turn on something to fall asleep to. I can say it never took too long to fall asleep since I am still trying to finish the same episode of One Tree Hill I started Monday night.

We are all proud that we can make it through a week without Dad without too much hiccup. There were tears from the kids but to say I made it on my own in 100+ heat, with three kids, no school or distractions, and a birthday to celebrate and I had a smile and never a tear shed from me is a HUGE feet. Now week two hopefully will go just as well!

We are whittling down our summer bucket list a bit but hopefully with get at least 5-10 things done this week. Here is this years list.

So what is on your bucket list this summer? Wish us luck this next week and hopefully we will capture a few of our bucket list adventures on camera to share!
