Lately I have been thinking a lot about my beliefs and how they effect my actions. Of course I am going to find some problems in the world today because I am not "progressive." I do not make excuses for what I believe. I also do not think that I have to compromise my beliefs to love others. It seems in our day that you cannot be "traditional" and excepting. Somehow it is an either or situation. And when you speak with many that are of your same faith you find there are some who think it is wrong to support or rather not support what they call another's right to choose. I am sure there are many topics that come to your mind when you hear this, mine too. Anyways I read a wonderful quote today that made me said out loud, "exactly!" and since that is sometimes hard for me to do I thought it was worth sharing. Here it is:
“My young brothers and sisters, this Church can never “dumb down” its doctrine
in response to social goodwill or political expediency or any other reason. It
is only the high ground of revealed truth that gives us any footing on which to
lift another who may feel troubled or forsaken. Our compassion and our
love—fundamental characteristics and requirements of our Christianity—must
never be interpreted as compromising the commandments. As the marvelous
George MacDonald once said, in such situations “we are not bound to say all that
we [believe], but we are bound not even to look [like] what we do not
